I had my first contact with Scott

I was living aboard Katie Dawn, my 38′ sailboat, in Yarrow Bay Marina, on the east side of Lake Washngton. Scott had been given my phone number by a mutual acquaintance, and called me from his home in Westport around 6pm. We chatted until about 8 about ideas he had for doing a real-time display of side-scan sonar data. This was a pretty cutting-edge idea and I was impressed by his logical explanation of what he wanted to do. But after two hours of chatting I noticed that his voice was becoming shakey. I asked if he was ok, and he told me he had called me while in the bathtub, and had run more hot water in as it cooled, until he ran out of hot water…so he was shivering and his teeth were chattering. I told him I would like to meet him face-to-face and he said he would be in Seattle in a few days. We agreed to meet at a pizza place in Kirkland.
